Indian meat ball curry

Yes, we make meatball curry in India too! Why does that surprise people?
Meatballs are not just for pasta? No No..
They are absolutely delicious in curries too.

Now I must apologize that I did not photograph the best picture for you.
In my defense the curry was so tasty, it went from the pot to the table and I was so hungry and busy (kids back from school) I  forgot to take a decent picture.
I will update this picture the next time I make it again.. I promise.

Now this may look like a long process, it's not. It's a fairly easy curry to make. Once you get the ingredients ready, half your work is done.

Here's what you will need

serves 3

For the curry
1 medium onion chopped
1 tbsp garlic chopped
1 tbsp ginger chopped
1 large tomato chopped
1/ 2 cup yogurt or coconut cream
1 tsp lemon juice
2 tbsp canola oil
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup chopped cilantro.

Spice powder
1 tsp coriander
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp chilly powder
1 tsp garam masala
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp pepper powder

For the meat balls
300 grams mince meat (turkey, beef or chicken - I'm using turkey)
1/2 tsp ginger and garlic paste
1/4 tsp garam masala
1/4 tsp chilly powder (optional)
 2 tbsp semolina (optional)
salt and pepper to taste

Method:

Heat two table spoon oil in a pan. Saute the onion for two minutes, add in ginger and garlic. Cook for another 2 to 3 minutes.
When the onions are translucent - add in your spice powders and chopped tomatoes.
Cook well for about two minutes, add 1/4 cup water and let cook for another five minutes.
The mixture should have turned more deep in color.
Add in the yogurt or coconut cream. Stir well.
Cook for about 2 minutes.
With a hand blender puree the mix to a smooth curry - It will look lighter and smoother like so.
Add 1/4 cup water and bring to a boil.
Next, add all the spices, semolina, salt and pepper to the mince meat. Mix well to combine.
Once the curry has come to a boil, lower the flame to a simmer.
Make bite size balls, place them in the curry, spread them evenly.
Add in the chopped cilantro.
Partially cover the pot and let simmer on medium low for about 10 minutes.
Add in the lemon juice. Stir well.
Do a taste test for seasoning and consistency.
If you are serving with rice - make gravy by adding a little water.
Your meat ball curry is ready. Serve hot.

Hope you enjoy it. Thanks for stopping by.
