Homemade Granola

Granola is one of my favorite breakfast meals. Do you know that most store bought Granola's are loaded with calories because they add so much sugar and oil into it.

There is no specific recipe for Granola really, it's all about putting the ingredients that you like and find healthy for your diet.
Here's an easy recipe that will let you choose and add what you like. As long as you use the same measurements you will have no unpleasant surprise.

Here's what you'll need
500 grams/5 cups Rolled oats. (not the quick cooking)
2 cups mixed nuts of your choice. (Almonds, pecans, walnuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, pistachios,)
1 cup dry fruit of your choice.(Raisins, figs, apricots, cranberries, etc)
1 cup wheat germ (optional) - I never use because my kids don't like it.
1/4 cup Canola Oil
1/4 cup Honey
1 cup cranberry or apple juice.
Pinch of salt.

Method:
Preheat the oven to 340F/170C.
Place the oats in a bowl.
Measure your mixed nuts and dry fruits.
Today I'm using pecans, almonds cashews, figs, raisins, apricot.
I use these to encourage my kids to eat Granola instead of other cereals.
Measure the wet ingredients. I like to use Cranberry juice.
Chop the nuts roughly.
as well as the fruit. Save the fruit aside until the Granola is cooked.
Add your mixed nuts into the oats, stir well to combine.
Mix well the juice, honey and oil.
 Pour over the oats mixture.
Spread the mixture on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
Place in the center rack for about 30 to 4o minutes.
During intervals keep tossing the Granola over (about 7 to 10 minutes), so it cooks evenly and not too brown on the outsides.
About 30 to 40 minutes later you will see the Granola is nicely golden brown and crisp.
Take it out of the oven and add in the dry fruit. Toss again.
Let cool completely on the baking tray.
Once cooled store in an air tight jar.
I like to serve mine with some plain yogurt and a swirl of honey.
That's how I make my Granola. Easy, simple, healthy and delicious.

Thanks for stopping by.
